Allison Young, a WHHS teacher and native New Yorker, shared her personal account of 9/11/01 with students today. "My dad, a New York cop, always told me that accidents didn't happen in twos. The moment that I saw the second plane hit the tower, just outside of my building, I knew that this was no accident. I had to get out of my building and meet my mom at our contact point, just across the Brooklyn Bridge. After escaping my building, I ran, losing my shoes and covering my feet in glass. The faster I ran, the more the smoke from the city engulfed me and my fellow New Yorkers."
Mrs. Young was reunited with her mother and sister on 9/11; however, it was days before they would hear from her father who stayed in the city to help. She shared that in the face of such tragedy, she encountered people of all walks of life working together to help those in need.
We are so thankful for Mrs. Young's willingness to share her story so that our students understand the impact on 9/11 on our nation.
