We are pleased to announce that Taylor Elementary's 5th grade students, teachers, and parents have been selected to participate in the U of A STeAM program. The partnership was announced at the Open House on September 24th. Representatives from the program joined Taylor's 5th grade family to share this exciting news.
The U of A STeAM Education and Training Initiative is a transformative, equity-based project supporting and empowering students, parents, and teachers in White Hall, Arkansas, to thrive. The project’s mission is to provide comprehensive STeAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, foster post-secondary (vocational, technical, 2-year, and 4-year) aspirations, and address barriers to post-secondary education attendance, graduation, and success. The program will introduce students and their parents to STeAM as a viable career option, highlight the personal, social, and economic benefits of post-secondary education, and work with schools and parents to reduce barriers to higher education. The evaluative data collected will help design a program template that can be implemented by other school districts across Arkansas and beyond.
The project aims to offer a comprehensive, wrap-around approach to increase STeAM education, training, and college savings for 5th-grade students, to provide financial education classes to parents, and to provide STeAM Teacher Training for White Hall educators at Taylor Elementary. Through a holistic approach, we aim to:
Provide engaging learning experiences that ignite curiosity and passion for STeAM discipline
Prepare students and their families for Post-Secondary Education
Provide Teacher Professional Development and Curricula Enhancement Support
Build an Ecosystem that supports the student’s ability to thrive
