School Accountability Report

November 17, 2022

Dear Parents, Guardians, Families, and Community Members,

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides a series of reports designed to obtain a snapshot of student performance. Reports are located in My School Info and include the Public School Rating (Accountability At-a-Glance), ESSA School Index, and School Report Card.

The School Rating (Accountability At-a-Glance) converts the ESSA School Index score into a letter grade and shows student performance broken down by various subgroups of students. The ESSA School Index is derived from the following:

  • Weighted Achievement–student performance for the tested year

  • School Valued Added Growth–comparison of each student’s growth from the previous school year

  • School Quality Success Score (SQSS)--many factors determine this score, including absenteeism

The 2022 School Ratings for Gandy Elementary can be found at https://5il.co/1kovu

The 2022 ESSA School Index for Gandy Elementary is available here:https://5il.co/1kovw. For more information on ESSA indicators, go to bit.ly/ESSAindicators.

We are pleased that our reports show an increase in our ESSA School Index over the last year. Gandy students' math and reading scores are improving, and we are seeing an upward trend in our Star Test scores as we work to close the learning gap created by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have incorporated the PLC process into our school environment. This process allows teachers to collaborate and review student data. This data is used to plan lessons and assessments so that every child is learning. The PLC process is making a difference in our students’ learning at Gandy! I cannot wait to see the progress that we make together during the 2022-2023 school year.

Sincerely,

Bill Tietz Gandy Elementary, Principal
